The idea of ministering to the Bush Nationals, was born in the hearts and minds of Theo and Esther Kisavi in 1995. A young girl came to live with their family because her mother was born with a mental condition and couldn't take care of her. This was 10 years after their village buried its first HIV/AIDS victim. The man had been a long-haul truck driver from East Africa.
Other things began to change in their village. There would be boys walking in groups of 2 or 3 going to homes asking for food. Whenever they came to Theo and Esther's house, Esther would make them grits. After the first day, the number of young children began to increase. The third day was Sunday and 7 young children showed up. Esther decided to take them to the Bible College to eat, and then wait for Sunday School classes to begin. It was a blessing in disguise! Esther's class was bigger that Sunday than any Sunday in the past!
The ministry began to grow...and so Theo and Esther traveled to the United States to raise funds for the Bible College. Since their children were in boarding school, they were undecided as to who would take care of the young girl living with them. In August of 1999, they remodeled one room in the college for the girl, two other young girls, and four boys to stay in while they traveled. A young lady also stayed there as the House Mother to care for the children in the Kasavi's absence.
After raising money in the States, Esther returned to Kenya to get papers from the government to officially start the orphanage. The government officers were overjoyed to hear that there was an interest to begin a Children's Home in the Bush. The fact that they were citizens of Kenya and saw the need, was even more overwhelming.
After Esther received the necessary papers, she went to Nairobi to buy the blankets, sheets, mattresses and beds needed for the home. The home would house children between the ages of 5 and 10 years old. The children who live at the Children's Home do not have parents. Most of them died of AIDS or other diseases that are rampant in the villages.
But now this was a great day! Theo and Esther gathered all of the Pastors together and held a Blessing Prayer Service for the home. The passion in their hearts was becoming a reality!
There would finally be a safe place for the orphaned children to be cared for and loved!
